Menifee 24/7 this week resumes its recognition of area high school athletes. Coaches of each sport are invited to submit one athlete per week for recognition. Here are this week's Athletes of the Week at Paloma Valley High School:
Mikayla Bocanegra is having a great year in her first varsity season in girls water polo, said coach Joe Ellett. She leads the team in percentage of shots made (44 percent) and is second on the team with 38 goals scored and 36 steals. Last week she scored 5 goals total against Lakeside and Heritage. Her strong play has helped the team to its most successful season in its four-year history (10-9 overall).
Freshman Trinitee Bradley of the girls basketball team scored 23 points against Perris and 17 points against Heritage in two close losses last week.
Junior girls soccer player Sayra Munoz is a center defender who is "a very solid player, smart and skilled at what she does," said coach Carlos Alfaro. "Sayra is one of the major reasons why our team has 11 shutouts and is undefeated. We just want to thank her for all the hard work and professionalism that she brings to our team." The Wildcats are 15-0-3 overall.
Junior power forward Richard Zweifach averaged 23 points and 10 rebounds in games last week for the boys basketball team, which is 17-6 overall.
