Hemet police have identified a Menifee man who fled from officers before being taken into custody in the parking lot of Countryside Marketplace on Saturday.
William Andrew Page, 32, fled from a residence in the 4000 block of Cougar Canyon Road in Hemet before police officers arrived about 8:43 a.m. in response to a report of domestic violence, according to Hemet Police Lt. Eric Dickson. Officers learned Page fled in a black Chevrolet sedan.
After receiving information that Page might be in the area of Newport Road and Menifee Road in Menifee, Hemet police requested assistance from the Sheriff's Department, which services Menifee. Sheriff's deputies located the suspect vehicle in Menifee and a brief pursuit ensued, Dickson said.
Hemet police officers joined Sheriff's deputies at the conclusion of the police pursuit in the parking lot of the commercial center at Newport Road and Haun Road. The suspect was taken into custody after a brief struggle that involved a woman who met him at the scene.
Menifee 24/7 arrived as officers were speaking to a man who said he is related to the suspect and woman. Officers said it appeared Page intended to end the chase in the Marketplace and see his mother. Page and the woman identified as his mother embraced as officers approached in the parking lot. Officers said the woman refused to let go of the suspect and in the struggle to take Page into custody, both were taken down.
The woman was identified by Dickson as Connie Page, 52, of Menifee. She was arrested on a charge of delaying and obstructing a police officer, was cited and released with a promise to appear in court. William Page was transported to Riverside County Jail.
Details of the domestic violence incident were not given, but Dickson said William Page has a criminal past and faces a charge of being a felony while out on bail. According to jail records, his charges also incude torture, false imprisonment, child cruelty, battery on a peace officer, making terrorist threats and attempted murder.
Bail was set at $1 million. Page is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
