One man suffered major injuries and another driver was also hospitalized Wednesday night after a head-on collision on Menifee Road that may have involved DUI, police said.
The collision between a Toyota Corolla and Toyota Camry occurred about 6:45 p.m. in the 26000 block of Menifee Road, just south of Highway 74, according to a news release. Nicholas Eddy, 57, of Homeland is suspected of driving under the influence. He was hospitalized with major injuries, so criminal action against him has not been taken at this time.
The other driver, a resident of Nuevo, received non-life threatening injuries.
A second accident occurred while the road was closed and the investigation was taking place. The driver of a Buick, 45-year-old Todd Stewart of Sun City, failed to obey the road closure and collided with a volunteer vehicle and patrol vehicle with its emergency lights flashing. Two volunteers received minor injuries. Stewart was evaluated for DUI and determined not to be impaired.
Menifee Road was closed in both directions and re-opened at midnight. Anyone with information on these incidents is encouraged to call Deputies Grimm or Kiebach at the Perris Sheriff’s Station, 951-210-1000.
