Three Menifee residents who have made significant contributions in the community were recently honored as Women of Distinction by Senator Mike Morrell, and they were recognized at the Dec. 6 City Council meeting.
Morrell recently partnered with the National Latina Business Women Association Inland Empire chapter to host the 2017 Women of Distinction Ceremony, recognizing the work of 36 women from around the 23rd State Senate District.
Kelly Smith is a transition teacher for adults with moderate to severe disabilities, helping them develop job skills. She also performs as a professional clown and is the author and photographer of children's picture books. She is starting a business as a Christian copywriter and plans to use funds raised for causes that support women and children in need and to protect wild and domestic animals. She was recognized as the Distinguished Woman of the Year from Menifee.
Resa Rosenstein transitioned to a career in teaching after practicing law for 18 years. She taught English at Paloma Valley High School and is the school's work experience coordinator. She works with students, community leaders and business owners to help students find jobs and prepare for college. Rosenstein is president of the Inland Chapter of California Work Experience Educators.
Lynne Hartung worked for 12 years in the Menifee Union School District and continues to volunteer at Paloma Valley High School in her retirement. She also raises puppies for the Canine Support Team, a nonprofit dedicated to training dogs to support people with special needs. Hartung is a member of the National Association of Female Executives and the Menifee/Sun City Woman's Club. She serves on the board for Arts Council Menifee and the Temecula Valley Symphony.
The presentations were made by Heather Perry of Senator Morrell's office.
In a separate award, Patricia Jones was honored by the City Council as an Outstanding Citizen for her volunteer work with Hospice of the Valleys.
