Michael Cano receives Outstanding Citizen Award

The Menifee City Council on Wednesday honored local resident Michael Cano with an Outstanding Citizen Award.

Cano is a Vietnam War veteran who received the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Vietnam Cross of Galantry and two Purple Hearts. In 2014, Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez named Cano the Veteran of the Year. He serves as chairman of the citizens oversight committee for Measure DD and is Post Commander of Menifee VFW Post 1956.

"Michael has applied what his parents instilled in him -- to be respectful and helpful to those in need," Mayor Neil Winter told the audience in making the presentation to Cano. "He follows the Marine Corps values of honor, courage and commitment in everything he does."
