A fundraiser for a little-known but serious disease called myasthenia gravis will be held Sunday when the Inland Empire MG Walk comes to Menifee.
The event will begin at 10 a.n. in Spirit Park, located on the north side of Newport Road at Berea Road. Participants will gather to celebrate the lives of MG patients, physicians and caregivers. Funds raised through donations collected by the walkers will help raise awareness and funds to support the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America.
MG affects people of any age, race or gender. According to a news release, the most common form of MG is a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disorder. It often includes fluctuating weakness of the voluntary muscle groups and can affect muscles that control eye movements, eyelids, chewing, swallowing, coughing and facial expression as well as the arms and legs. MG can also affect breathing.
The National MG Walk Campaign is celebrating seven years of raising funds and awareness for the MG Community, having raised over $4.5 million in that time.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. for those who would like to come out and walk to support the cause.
