Two Moreno Valley women face charges of armed robbery, conspiracy and possession of stolen property in a case involving a theft in Menifee, police said.
The suspects arranged a meeting with a woman who had offered to sell her cell phone on the OfferUp website, according to a Sheriff's Department news release. They met at the intersection of Palomar Road and Holland Road in Menifee. When the victim showed the suspects the phone, one of the suspects pointed a gun at her and took the phone, saying, "The phone is mine now."
The suspects drove away in an older model, dark blue Cadillac sedan.
Officers investigating the case served a search warrant at a residence in the 10000 block of Breezy Meadow in Moreno Valley about 4 p.m. on Monday. They located the stolen cell phone in a bedroom, along with a small caliber handgun. Additional phones and property were collected.
Amy Chavez, 20 (left), and Ashley Kelly, 24, were arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center. Bail was set at $60,000 each.
