Menifee 24/7 is pleased to honor outstanding athletes at area high schools. Each coach of a sport in season is allowed to select one athlete per week as Athlete of the Week. Here are this week's honorees from Paloma Valley High School:
The football team's honoree is Kanishka "KK" Lokusooriya. Kanishka had 4 tackles and 2 tackles for a loss in a strong defensive line showing against Temescal Canyon.
Kalyn Kemp led the girls golf team to wins over Perris and Heritage last week, shooting 49 in both matches.
Brenda Olas (left) of the girls tennis team was moved up from JV this year and has played a key role on varsity. "She and her doubles partner are continually impressing the coaching staff weekly," said coach David McCoy. "They have positioned themselves as the number two doubles team. She is a hard worker with true grit on the courts."
Bri Ferguson (below right) has been one of the most improved and consistent runners on the girls cross country team. She improved her times by one minute in both the Wayne Walker Invitational and Sunbelt League meet No. 2. She finished in front of every other team's sixth and seventh runners in the league meet, helping her team to a second-place finish.
"I challenged Bri to take a different mentality into this season -- don't worry about people chasing you from behind, instead focus on chasing the people in front of you," said coach Joe Ellett. "This new approach is really paying off as we are seeing great races from Bri week after week."
