Representatives of Michelle's Place, a resource center for women battling cancer, were present at the Menifee City Council meeting Wednesday night for a City proclamation recognizing October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Mayor Neil Winter read the proclamation, followed by brief comments by Kim Goodnough, representing Michelle's Place. The organization is located in Temecula and provides support for cancer victims. The staff works with local medical providers and other programs such as Every Woman Counts to ensure that women who have a symptom of breast cancer get the tests required. Emotional support and education are other important services.

"At Michelle's Place, we're not trying to cure cancer, but we're helping those who are fighting cancer," Goodnough said.
