Heritage keeps rolling with 41-13 win over Elsinore

Heritage High School's football team continued its march through the Sunbelt League Friday night with a 41-13 victory at Elsinore High.

The Patriots, who crushed Lakeside 60-7 last week, are 2-0 in league play and 6-1 overall and giving lots of playing time to reserves because of some lop-sided victories. Heritage scored all 41 of its points in the first half Friday night and spread the ball around to several players.

Quarterback Devan Freedland got the Patriots on the board early with a 45-yard touchdown pass to Rashoud Shelton, giving Heritage a 7-0 lead after the PAT. It was soon 14-0 after a 40-yard run by Sherod White. Elsinore barely had time to hold onto the ball before James Phillips came up with an interception, returning the ball to the Elsinore 17-yard line.

That set the stage for a 17-yard TD pass from Freedland to Shelton for a 21-0 lead, and the rout was on. Phillips later ran 63 yards for a touchdown and Rutendo Matiringe ran 20 yards for another score.

Freeland passed for 115 yards for the Patriots, who play host to Perris next Friday.
