Freedland, defense lead Heritage to 60-7 win over Lakeside

Devan Freedland passed for four touchdowns in the first half and the defense smothered the opposition Friday night as the Heritage High School football team crushed Lakeside 60-7 in the Patriots' Sunbelt League opener.

Heritage dominated from start to finish in improving its overall record to 5-1. The only touchdown Lakeside scored came late in the game on a fumble return. It was the first loss of the season for Lakeside.

Freedland's touchdown passes covered 40 yards to Rickie Johnson, 45 yards to Tonga Tavake, 3 yards to Daniel Reyes and 18 yards to Rashoud Shelton. The Patriots also got rushing touchdowns from Sherod White (8 yards), Jesse Estrada (18 yards), Rutendo Matiringe (65 yards), George Kasper (2 yards) and Jadyn Goosby (1 yard). Goosby's touchdown run was set up by a 90-yard kickoff return by Brandon Marshall.

White also set up a Freedland touchdown pass in the first quarter with an interception. The score was 46-0 at halftime and reserves played in the second half.

Next Friday, the Patriots continue league play at Elsinore.
