The Menifee City Council last week recognized October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a proclamation presented to Florence White (center), executive director of Alternatives to Domestic Violence, an agency that offers shelter, counseling, referrals, case management, life skills and education to victims of domestic violence and their families.
White expressed her appreciation to the City of Menifee for its support of a local shelter, which has 60 beds to temporarily house victims of domestic violence. According to statistics read during the presentation, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men will be the victim of domestic violence at least once in their lifetime.
White presented to council member Lesa Sobek, representing the City of Menifee, the organization's Beacon Award for outstanding support of those working to end domestic violence.
