Junior wide receiver Mason Carvalho caught 8 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns and returned a punt for a third TD Friday night as the Paloma Valley High School football team defeated Temescal Canyon, 48-10.
Quarterback Chance Nolan passed for 294 yards and 3 touchdowns and the defense held the opposition scoreless until the final minutes. In winning their Sunbelt League opener, the Wildcats improved their overall record to 5-1 heading into next week's game at Lakeside.
Carvalho opened the scoring with a 66-yard punt return for a touchdown. The next two touchdowns were passes from Nolan to Carvalho covering 25 and 40 yards. The Wildcats followed that with a 3-yard run by Steven Bradshaw and a 3-yard run by Tyrese Tillman, giving Paloma Valley a 34-0 lead at halftime.
The only score of the third quarter was a 27-yard pass from Nolan to Thomas Eddington. Tyler Tinahui closed out the scoring for Paloma Valley in the fourth quarter with a 56-yard run for a 48-0 lead.
Nolan rushed for 96 yards to lead his team in that category. Carvalho finished with 281 all-purpose yards.
