Carnegie Riverside running back Decklan Eaden ran for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter Friday night and the Wolverines held on to beat Santa Rosa Academy's football team 14-7, handing the Rangers their first loss of the season.
At the start of the second quarter, Ranger Connor Dougherty picked up a few yards with the ball but lost a fumble to Carnegie's Joe Green, with Jacob Munstock on the tackle.
Later in the period, Carnegie freshman Devin Hudak scored the first touchdown of the game for a 7-0 lead. In the third quarter, Santa Rosa's Jack Donaldson passed to Kaden Long for a touchdown, tying the score.
At the start of the third quarter, Santa Rosa defensive tackle Edwin Williams was injured and was walked off the field. Meanwhile, Dougherty took possession of the ball and ran down the field but was taken down by Josh Corliss, defensive lineman. Then Donaldson completed a pass to Long for the touchdown.
Nearing the end of the third quarter, Santa Rosa's Andrew Snyder gained 18 yards but was taken down by defensive back Chris Hua, ending the quarter in a 7-7 tie.
As soon as the fourth quarter started, Eaden took the ball down the field, scoring the Wolverines' second touchdown with Julio Arocha on the PAT.
