Menifee 24/7 is pleased to once again honor outstanding athletes at area high schools. Each coach of a sport in season is allowed to select one athlete per week as Athlete of the Week. Here are this week's honorees from Paloma Valley High School:
Leslie Perez de Alba is the only starting senior on the girls tennis team. "She is showing great senior leadership and I appreciate that very much," said her coach, David McCoy. "She is part of the number two doubles team and went 4-2 against Tahquitz and San Jacinto. At San Jacinto, she had an eye injury on the first point, but gutted it out for her team the rest of the match. She had a cool black eye the next day to show for it. We play tough combat tennis at PVHS!"
Junior middle hitter Channa Hart ranks second on the girls volleyball team with 49 kills and second in blocks with 22. She has 7 aces. Hart was voted to the all-tournament team at the Hemet Tournament.
Freshman Katie Christofferson was Paloma Valley's fastest finisher at the Sunbelt League Cross Country Cluster Meet No. 1 Sept 13. She finished fourth in the race and helped her team finish in second place against strong competition from Elsinore High. "Katie's enthusiasm and focus are an inspiration to her teammates," said coach Joe Ellett. "They will all continue to train hard and improve as they look to defend our Sunbelt League Championship streak."
Maile Kamalii led the girls golf team with a match-low 45 in a victory over Perris Sept 14. The highlight of her round was on the 8th hole, where she got an Eagle 3 on the par 5.
Linebacker Damian Torres had two sacks in the football team's 23-15 victory over Corona Sept. 15. Mason Carvalho caught a touchdown pass and threw a touchdown pass in a 27-5 win over ML King Sept. 8.
