The City of Menifee will hold an informational meeting Sept. 9 for those interested in participating and volunteering to help a Special Olympics team being formed to represent the city.
The new program orientation will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at La Ladera Park. The "Mighty Menifee" team will compete in regional Special Olympics competitions.
"The 'Mighty Menifee' moniker is our specific team name," said Jason Hendrix, community services supervisor for the City of Menifee. "Each City has a team nickname, so any time we go to a regional event or state event, we will be known as Mighty Menifee.
"This Saturday is a preview where prospective athletes and parents may come and experience a brief preview of each sport offered. The sports we will offer (more may come as participation grows) are: basketball, softball, bocce ball, soccer, and tennis. The sports will begin this Fall (approximately November)."
