Five vehicles were involved and two people were transported with minor injuries in a traffic accident Friday afternoon at the intersection of Newport Road and Menifee Road, police said.
The accident occurred about 4:30 p.m. and included one vehicle that rolled over, said Deputy Mike Vasquez of the Sheriff's Department. He said there was no evidence that alcohol was involved and the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Westbound Newport Road was blocked at Menifee Road until 5:45 p.m. while the vehicles were towed away and debris removed from the roadway.
The accident was at least the fifth major traffic accident in Menifee in the last three days. There were no fatalities but several minor injuries, one car fire and one pedestrian struck in other incidents previously reported on Menifee 24/7.
I wonder if this city has more traffic accidents than comparable cities because rush hour here is ridiculous. I need to wait for cars to run red arrows at too many intersections to be coincidence. I'm now in the habit of checking more carefully before going on any green light because of how badly I see people run red lights here. We need some traffic enforcement.
