Don Reed, a World War II veteran and 40-year resident of the Sun City community, died Aug. 30 in Menifee.
Born Donald Rodwell Reed on Aug. 15, 1924 in Wisconsin, Reed served in the Fourth Marine Division in Roi-Namur, Iwo-Jima, Tinian and Saipan. His wife Anne preceded him in death 20 years ago. Reed had received lots of support in recent years from friends, neighbors and fellow veterans, including renovations made at his home.
Reed is survived by his two daughters, Karen Knickerbocker and Donna Reed; granddaughter Jenna Renee Morigi; sister Dorothy Reed Trethewey; and brother Rodwell Reed, Jr.
A memorial service with military honors will be held on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 10 a.m. at Evans Brown Sun City Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Semper Fi Fund, 825 College Blvd., Suite 102 PMB, 609 Oceanside, CA 92057 or SemperFiFund.org
Last Dec. 16, members of the VFW Inland Empire Motorcycle Club and Menifee Mayor Neil Winter paid Reed a visit. |
Members of the Menifee Valley Lions Club presented a check to help Reed with renovation costs at his home on March 25. |
