Menifee 24/7 is pleased to honor outstanding athletes at area high schools. Each coach of a sport in season is allowed to select one athlete per week as Athlete of the Week. Here are this week's honorees from Heritage High School:
Jesse Estrada has excelled at linebacker and running back for the football team. He played a key role again last Friday, even though the Patriots lost a 34-21 decision to Orange Lutheran -- their first nonleague loss in 41 games.
Kayla Vinson shot a team-low 55 at Trilogy for the girls golf team. Gianna Gonzales continued her standout performance for the girls tennis team.
The cross country teams' best runners at the recent Janice Kelly Invitational in Hemet were freshmen. Evan Hernandez posted a time of 17:51 for 15th place in the boys frosh/soph race. JJ Messina and Sofia Mirabel each ran 21:31 to take 13th and 14th in the girls frosh' soph race.
