The victim in a fatal traffic collision Thursday night in the Romoland community in Menifee has been identified as a Perris woman by the County Coroner's Office.
Irene Perez, 72, died in the collision, which involved two vehicles at the intersection of Mapes Road and Antelope Road. The accident was reported at 5:40 p.m, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. One other person suffered minor injuries.
The accident is under investigation.
Very sad for all involved. Terribly bad intersection. Cross traffic does not stop but everybody thinks they do and pulls out in front of the through traffic there is absolutely no street lights it's dark as heck. Probably try a four-way stop next with flashing lights Maybe. Unless they haven't reached their fatality quote I had this intersection. What a shame.
ReplyDeleteThis whole intersection needs serious review! Actually Antelope Road does, too. People still drive like idiots, in site of the decrease in speed limit. The entire road is a death trap. That intersection needs a controlled 4 way stop!!
ReplyDeleteThis might have been prevented if a stop sign would be put up! In the last five years I've lived in this area there have been at least 15 accidents there. I was hitvwhrn a man speeding attempted to pass me me on my left as I was making a left turn. Idiot! Anyway, he wouldn't hit me if he would've had to stop at a stop sign.
ReplyDeleteI live on the corner of Watson, Antelope and 3rd Street it is a 5-way stop. During the day traffic is very heavy because people avoid 74 and use it to cut through to other parts of Romoland. The norm for leaving this 5-way stop is burning rubber and hauling ass. In the last few months I could count at least three or four vehicles per evening that just blow through the stop signs at at least 60 70 miles an hour they don't even attempt to stop. My family knows the intersection and they make absolutely sure it's clear before they cross. It has gotten worse over the last few weeks with weekend evenings bring more racing and more blowing through stop signs. Someone going to be dead pretty soon and I hope it's not in my front yard. The city needs to do something about this fast
