A Menifee man was arrested and booked for being under the influence or drugs and resisting arrest after a confrontation with police at a commercial center in town, authorities said.
At about 1 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the report of a disturbance outside a business in the area of Newport Road and Haun Road, according to a Sheriff's Department news release. They were given a description of a male who had been loud and aggressive at the business before leaving and soon located a subject matching the description in the area, aggressively shouting at passersby.
The suspect, identified as Keith Raymond, was erratic in his behavior and did not comply with officers' demands. After a brief struggle, he was taken into custody. Following his medical clearance, he was booked at the Cois M. Byrd Detention Center.
According to the news release, a short video posted on social media included a brief portion of the incident but did not capture the officer's repeated efforts to get the suspect to comply.
"As with most police events, the short, publicly produced video does not have the full context or content of the incident seen on the video," the news release stated. "Additionally, rarely in use of force situations is there agreement from all parties involved as to the appropriateness, efficacy or necessity of its use. This use of force will be investigated administratively."
