Walgreens, Vons both victims of theft on same morning

Police are investigating two crimes that occurred at businesses in the Sun City community in the early morning hours on Friday.

The manager of the Walgreens at the corner of McCall Boulevard and Bradley Road stood by broken glass in the store's front door as he told Menifee 24/7 that security video shows a man breaking in about 4 a.m., stealing a bottle of wine and leaving. Nothing else was taken, he said.

Sheriff's deputies responded at 4:15 a.m. to a call of burglary at that location, said Deputy Mike Vasquez. He said the case is under investigation and gave no other details.

A store employee at the Vons supermarket in the 27200 block of Sun City Boulevard confirmed that a crime occurred there Friday morning but would give no other details. Vasquez said the Sheriff's Department received a report of petty theft just after 6:15 a.m. He said a male, unknown race, left the location with merchandise. The investigation is ongoing and no other details were available.

Both businesses were open as usual Friday morning.
