A pet adoption special will be offered Saturday as part of a program to raise funds to assist combat veterans and care for shelter animals, Riverside County Animal Services announced today.
The special adoption cost of $49 for all pets will be offered at the San Jacinto Animal Campus, 581 S. Grand Ave. in San Jacinto, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be food trucks, vendors and live entertainment.
From the adoption fee, $20 will go to the nonprofit organization Reaching New Heights Foundation, which assists veterans transitioning from active duty and homelessness. Another $20 will go to the Animal Solutions Konnection Foundation, which works with Riverside County Animal Services on programs that benefit homeless pets and assist pet owners in need.
The remaining $9 will offset some of the shelter costs in caring for pets.
This event is the last in a series of programs to help get pets adopted and support local organizations.
"This series has sparked a spirit of patriotism with our adopters," said Robert Miller, director of Riverside County Animal Services, in a news release. "Adopters are not only helping give a pet a loving home, but they’re also contributing to a cause that assists combat veterans."
More than 200 pet adoptions have occurred as a result of this series.
"This is a great way to provide a pet’s forever home and honor our combat veterans through the Reaching New Heights Foundation," said Riverside County Supervisor Chuck Washington, whose district includes San Jacinto.
