Suspect in Lake Elsinore murder held without bail

Police have identified the man accused of shooting to death a clerk in a Lake Elsinore Circle K convenience store, authorities said.

James Coon, 26, of Lake Elsinore was arrested at his home and is being held without bail in Robert Presley Detention Center on charges of murder with malice, second-degree robbery and second-degree burglary. He is suspected of shooting store clerk Eric Whitecomb, 47, of Wildomar about 5:20 a.m. on Wednesday. Whitecomb died a short time later.

The investigation led to the 2:30 p.m. arrest of Coon.
