Pedestrian dies after being struck by vehicle on Hwy 74

A pedestrian standing in the roadway on Highway 74 in the Romoland community in Menifee died after being struck by a vehicle Thursday night, authorities said.

Teresa Garcia, 37, of Menifee was identified by the County Coroner's Office as the victim. According to a Sheriff's Department news release, a motorist was driving westbound on Highway 74 near 3rd Street about 11:43 p.m. when it struck the pedestrian, who was standing in the roadway. It was determined that the pedestrian was not near a crosswalk at the time of the collision.

Garcia suffered major injuries and died at the scene. The driver stayed at the scene during the investigation. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor, police said.
