A brush fire stoked by moderate winds covered 6 acres of hillside and open field in northeast Menifee Thursday afternoon.
A total of 10 fire engines, one water tanker and a bulldozer were used to knock down the fire, which was reported about 2:30 p.m. south of Simpson road and east of Lindenberger Road. The fire was just north and downhill from homes on Mesa Verde Circle in the Echo Ridge community. However, with winds blowing to the north, the flames began creeping in the other direction, into an open field between the hillside and the Mahogany Creek development.
The fire never got closer than a few hundred yards from those homes, with the fire declared contained at 4:13 p.m., according to fire officials. No injuries were reported. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
