Preserving a special memory from a special angle, class Valedictorian Caleb Smeraldi of Murrieta takes a selfie from the podium during Santa Rosa Academy's commencement ceremony Friday night. This was the school's first graduation celebrated in the new campus gym.
A total of 108 students received their diplomas during the ceremony, which included a video presentation from the school's kindergarten students giving the seniors advice on their future and a video from the grandmother of graduating senior Nathan Sapong. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare is the chief of staff to the president of the Republic of Ghana.
In addition to Smeraldi's address to his classmates, Co-Salutatorians Donica Loney and Victoria Vega addressed the audience. The commencement address was given by Dr. Roger Schultz, president of Mt. San Jacinto College.
"Life is going to be what you make of it; it’s going to be the course you set," Schultz told the students during his address. "Just start with the end in mind, look at where you want to be in five years, 10 years, 20 years ... where do you want to be, what do you want your life to look like?"
