Paloma Valley High Athletes of the Week: May 12

Each week, Menifee 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Paloma Valley High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's honorees from Paloma Valley:

The boys volleyball team is represented by Hayden Kaas, a repeat winner of the award. "Hayden has been strong for us all season and this week he continued to show that strength in our last league match against JW North," said his coach, Katie Bradley. "His leadership and energy on the court have been a huge factor in our team's success."

Winter Carreno of the girls track team won the Sunbelt League title in the high jump with her jump of 5-6. She broke her own school record and tied the Sunbelt League record. This is the third year in a row that she has won the league title in that event.

Tessa Trussell of the girls swim team placed third in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 freestyle at league finals. She anchored the second-place 400 freestyle relay team and swam the lead leg on the league champion 200 freestyle relay team that set a school record and qualified for the CIF meet.

Cole Ivey of the boys swim team set a school record in the 100 butterfly, finishing third in his first league finals appearance. He also was a member of the 200 medley relay team and the 400 freestyle relay team. Both placed third at league finals.
