Menifee 24/7 is pleased to honor top athletes from Paloma Valley High School, as nominated by their coaches. Here are the Athletes of the Week for the weeks of April 3 and April 10:
Representing the girls track team is Laniya Smith, who set personal records in the 100-meter hurdles (16.53) against Beaumont and the 300 hurdles (48.32) at the Mt. Carmel/ASICS Invitational. "Laniya is a team player who has also filled in on the 400 relay team and in the long jump when called upon," said coach Juan Merida. "Her willingness to do whatever is needed as well as her hard work and determination are why she is our Athlete of the Week."
Boys volleyball player Cameron Poulsen played a key role in victories over Perris and Temescal Canyon early this month. "Cameron has really stepped up his all-around game and is delivering the blocks our team needs," said his coach, Katie Bradley.
Ira McKenna, co-caption of the swim team, set a school record in the 200 freestyle against Elsinore.
Tomo Catolico represents the boys tennis team. He fought back from a 5-2 deficit in his set with Temescal Canyon's No. 1 singles player to win, 7-5. He helped the Wildcats start league play with a 5-0 record.
