Don Williamson, who has served as Paloma Valley High School principal since August 2013, has resigned his position, effective at the end of the school year.
Williamson's resignation was accepted Wednesday by the Perris Union High School District governing board, which also approved the promotion of Jennifer Thomasian from assistant principal to principal. Thomasian has served as assistant principal at the school since January 2014.
Williamson told Menifee 24/7 that no single incident led to his decision to resign. It was a decision made while looking ahead to his future, he said.
"I am looking for new challenges," Williamson said. "I actually have an elementary certificate and would love to work in a middle school. It would be nice to have fewer hours and enjoy some more family time."
Williamson has been a PUHSD employee for more than 14 years. He began as a special education teacher in the district and later worked as assistant principal of the Academy Community Day School and assistant principal at Heritage High School.
Thomasian's experience includes more than 11 years in public education. She began her career as a science teacher in the Lake Elsinore Unified School District. Before coming to Paloma Valley, she was a high school science teacher at Temescal Canyon High School.
During her time at Paloma Valley, Thomasian has been instrumental in implementing school-wide disciplinary practices and procedures in coordination with Positive Behavior Intervention Support strategies.
"I value the relationships I've built with staff, students, parents and the whole Paloma community over the past three years," Thomasian said during Wednesday's board meeting. "I am very proud of the work our teams have done and I am excited to continue with our forward momentum. Together, we'll take Paloma Valley to the next level."
Jennifer Thomasian will assume her new duties as principal of Paloma Valley High School at the end of the school year. |
