Smart & Final Extra coming to Newport Towne Square

Smart & Final Extra (blue star) will be located in the north portion of Newport Towne Square. When it opens, entry access will be opened off New Hub Drive to the north (green arrow) to complement the existing entrance off Newport Road. The current entrance off Haun Road behind the Circle K will be closed off (red barrier).

Smart & Final Extra, an expanded version of the popular warehouse-style food and supply store, was announced today as the newest addition to Newport Towne Square, located on the north side of Newport Road just west of Haun Road.

This will be the first business to be constructed in the second phase of Newport Towne Square, which already includes Applebee's, T-Mobile, Flame Broiler, Jersey Mike's and Five Guys. The new phase will also include a 9,000-square-foot restaurant and 13,000-square-foot retail space. Those businesses have not been announced.

According to the company website, Smart & Final Extra is a new format for the Smart & Final company, offering expanded every day groceries such as shampoos, to-go meals and baby products, available as single items in addition to the usual bulk items available.

"We are very excited to welcome Smart & Final to Menifee," said Mayor Neil Winter. "Smart & Final's neighborhood style market is another great health-conscious option for our residents, which has been highly requested by the community."

Smart & Final Extra is expected to open this fall, said Gina Gonzalez, economic development manager for the City of Menifee. When it does, an additional entrance to the center will be opened off New Hub Drive to the north. The existing entrance off Haun Road behind the Circle K would be closed off, helping to eliminate a traffic hazard for motorists attempting to turn left into the center so close to the intersection of Haun Road and Newport Road.
