Menifee man dies in head-on collision on Scott Road

A Menifee man was killed in a head-on collision on Scott Road early Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The victim, identified by the Coroner's office as Peter Sakr, 18, of Menifee, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Impala eastbound on Scott Road just east of Merritt Road at 12:12 a.m., according to Officer Mike Lassig of the CHP. His vehicle's rate of speed is unknown. Sakr crossed a double yellow line to pass slower traffic and crashed head-on into a 2012 Ford F-350 truck driven westbound by Eduardo Lucero, 35, of Winchester.

Sakr was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:09 a.m. Lucero was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center with minor injuries. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Lucero said he saw Sakr's vehicle coming toward him but was unable to avoid the collision. Lucero was wearing a seat belt. Sakr was not, Lassig said. Lucero's speed was about 45 mph.

The accident remains under investigation.
