Wrestler Savion Dixon and soccer player Alyssa Moore were recently named Menifee 24/7 February Athletes of the Month at Paloma Valley High School.
Dixon, a sophomore, was Sunbelt League champion at 106 pounds, placed fourth in the CIF finals and competed in the Masters meet. He started the school year as a football player and was asked by coaches to join the wrestling team, for which he dominated.
"Savion had an amazing year, impressing not only at Paloma Valley, but garnering attention around the area as a rising star," said wrestling coach Luis Robles. "In only three months, Savion was able to beat wrestlers who have trained many years. He is an amazing athlete with a great work ethic."
Moore, also a sophomore, had an outstanding season as a forward and helped lead the girls soccer team to a Sunbelt League co-championship and to the CIF quarterfinals. This spring, she is playing club soccer as well as competing in the 400 meters for the track team.
"Alyssa is a very gifted athlete with great soccer skills and she's also a superstar in the classroom," said her coach, Carlos Alfaro. "She was one of our two top scorers on the team with 16 goals, all while missing the first eight games.
"Last season she was third-team all-CIF as a freshman. Alyssa was a major part of our success, and we are so happy knowing we will have her here for two more years."
