Paloma Valley High Athletes of the Week: Jan. 29

Each week, Menifee 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Paloma Valley High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's honorees from Paloma Valley:

Wrestler Isay Gomez placed seventh at the prestigious Raul Huerta Memorial Tournament, winning two matches by just one point. "Isay has steadily become one of our top guys, with lots of hard work and strategy development," said coach Luis Robles.

Girls wrestling standout Rebecca Villanueva "has worked very hard to get down to weight, for the best of the team, and it has paid off," Lopez said. "She helped the team with a quick pin versus Moreno Valley, and she also helped the team take runner-up at the Ayala Tournament."

Center midfielder Miale Jones of the girls soccer team is "the heart of our team," said coach Carlos Alfaro. "She set the beat for our success."

Sophomore point guard Adrian Contreras was honored for his play on the boys basketball team.
