Paloma Valley High Athletes of the Week: Jan. 22

Each week, Menifee 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Paloma Valley High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's honorees from Paloma Valley:

Senior point guard Justice Dunlap was honored for his overall play for the boys basketball team. "Justice has done an outstanding job for us defensively," said coach Michael Pfeiffer. "We are very proud of him and the growth he has shown throughout the season."

Monique Alcala of the girls wrestling team finished first in the Maidens of the Mayhem Tournament at Murrieta Valley High School. She helped the team to a first-place finish, even though three starters were out. Alcala said she hopes to become a Mixed Martial Arts fighter one day.

Israel Webster of the boys wrestling team won a big individual match against one of Elsinore High's top wrestlers, scoring a takedown in the final seconds to help his team to a 35-23 victory in an important league dual meet.
