Each week, Menifee 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Paloma Valley High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's honorees from Paloma Valley:
Freshman wrestler Cameron Owen has placed at every tournament in which he has competed, beating many upperclassmen. He has helped lead the team to a 7-1 record. Owen's best individual performance so far was an appearance in the finals of the Rumble at the Lake tournament.
Owen's teammate, Nathan Brown, is the team captain. He has placed in every tournament as well, including an apperance in the finals of the Warrior Invite.
Two members of the girls wrestling team were also honored. Marisa Charoensri helped lead the team to dual meet wins over Moreno Valley and Lakeside. She also made the semifinals of the Queen of the Hill Tournament.
Amara Sengamphan has won several of her matches by pinning her opponent. She made the finals of the Hillcrest Tournament. At the Queen of the Hill Tournament, she pinned a State qualifier and number two girl in the CIF Southern Section.
Guard Cole Seevers has been one of the mainstays of the boys basketball team, which is trying to regroup in league play after suffering several injuries and illnesses early in the season.
These players are eligible for the Athlete of the Month award. Anyone wishing to purchase a print copy of this article may do so by emailing menifee247info@gmail.com.
