The swift actions of a City of Menifee staff member was the subject of praise in a letter received by the City from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department recently.
The letter praised the efforts of Steve Glynn, the City's public works manager, in assisting a Sheriff's communication officer who was involved in a major traffic accident in the rain Jan. 12. Glynn was driving his Public Works vehicle to a meeting in Riverside when he witnessed the traffic accident on Alessandro Boulevard.
According to the letter sent from Sheriff's Lt. David Kurylowicz to Menifee Acting City Manager Jeff Wyman, Sheriff's Communication Officer Alma Martinez was struck head-on by another vehicle that lost control in the rain, purshing her SUV backward almost 100 feet.
Glynn was approaching the area and came upon the accident scene. He noticed that Martinez's SUV was smoking and may be on fire. In the pouring rain, he positioned his car to provide a safe zone, then provided aid and comfort to both drivers while other motorists passed by without offering help.
After removing Martinez from her vehicle and placing her inside his warm and dry vehicle, Glynn (right) gave first aid to her as he stood outside the car door in the wind and driving rain.
"The impact of Steve's quick action and his kindness did not go unnoticed," Kurylowicz wrote in the letter to the City of Menifee. "Please extend my sincere appreciation and thanks on behalf of our Dispatch family and from Officer Martinez."
