Three people -- including a toddler -- escaped injury Tuesday afternoon when a vehicle burst into flames on Newport Road just west of Haun Road.

The female driver of a white Ford Explorer told Menifee 24/7 she had just filled her vehicle with gas at the Circle K at Newport Road and Haun Road and had barely pulled onto westbound Newport Road when she heard a pop and realized the car was on fire. She quickly pulled into the parking lot of Applebee's restaurant.

The driver and her friend pulled the toddler, still in a car seat, out of the back seat and all three exited the vehicle safely. Firefighters arrived and extinguished the fire.
