Story updated at 3:10 p.m.:
A man found dead in the bushes alongside a Menifee street Tuesday morning is believed to be Paul Snyder, who has been missing from his Menifee home since Oct. 27, a family member told Menifee 24/7 today.
Todd Huth, Snyder's brother-in-law, said the family has not received confirmation from the Coroner but "we believe it's Paul's body. They are going to confirm through fingerprints and other records."
Snyder, 46, is believed to have ridden a black and silver GT mountain bike to the CVS pharmacy at Bradley Road and Newport Road sometime on Oct. 27. He has not been seen since. According to Huth, Snyder had triple bypass surgery a year ago and was suffering from depression and anxiety. He was on several medications but did not have them with him when he was last seen.
A search party was organized Saturday afternoon and many volunteers searched locations around town. It is not known whether the area where the body was found was searched. Huth told Menifee 24/7 on Friday that police said Snyder's phone was pinged near Lyle Marsh Park, just a few blocks from the scene of today's discovery and near Snyder's home. It is not clear when that phone contact was made.
"We are crushed and could use prayers for strength, comfort and understanding," Huth said Tuesday.
Riverside County Sheriff's deputies responded to a 7 a.m. call regarding the discovery of a body on La Piedra Road between Cleary Street and School Park Drive, a few blocks south of Lyle Marsh Park and Chester Morrison Elementary School. The street was blocked off as deputies awaited the County Coroner, who arrived and removed the body about 10:30 a.m.
Deputy Mike Vasquez confirmed the deceased was a male and that the case is being investigated as an unattended death. Sgt. David Marshall told Menifee at the scene that it appears the body had been there "for some time" and that a bicycle was found near the body.
Local residents told Menifee 24/7 they often walk on that sidewalk and walk their dogs past those bushes. No one interviewed recalled seeing anything suspicious in that area in recent days.
Just lost a great friend, so sad. My condolences to his family.
