Editor's note: This article honors the athletes selected by their coaches for the week of Oct. 3. This week's selections will announced later this week.
Each week, Menifee 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Paloma Valley High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are the Paloma Valley honorees for the week of Oct. 3:
Junior team captain Madison Martinez has been a standout player at the libero position for the girls volleyball team, leading the team in aces, digs and passing percentage. "She may be our smallest player, but she brings the most energy," said her coach, Stephen Kaas.
Boys cross country runner Conner Dmytriw has been rock solid so far this season, turning in consistent times at or under 16 minutes for three miles, including a personal record of 15.44 at the Woodbridge Invitational on Sept 17. "His relentless dedication and work ethic have made this junior one of the top three varsity performers and a member of a very strong seven-man team that is looking for success both at the league and CIF levels," said coach James Gray.
Sydney Anderson is half of the tennis team's No. 1 doubles team with Megan Dallin. "They are playing great together and are quickly becoming our go-to number one doubles team," said coach Dave McCoy. "I'm very excited for their future."
These athletes will be eligible for the October Athlete of the Month award. Anyone wishing to order a print copy of this article may do so by emailing menifee247info@gmail.com
