Each week, Menifee 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Paloma Valley High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are the honorees from Paloma Valley High School for the week of Oct. 17:
Wide receiver Blake Moore had 6 catches for 131 yards and 3 touchdowns in the football team's 71-0 win over Lakeside Oct. 14. In the same game, linebacker Damian Torres had 5 tackles and a sack and helped the defense hold Lakeside to 1 yard of total offense.
Samantha Dallin has continued to excel and serve as one of the leaders on the girls tennis team. "As a coach, I appreciate the team leadership she has shown," said her coach, David McCoy. "Through some adversity she has come out on top through her resilience and maturity. Her character has really shined through this year."
Senior setter Hannah Maldonado is one of the top players on the girls volleyball team. She led a well-balanced team attack in a recent win over Temescal Canyon. "Hannah brings energy to the court and her decision making has improved throughout the season," said her coach, Stephen Kaas.
Maritza Martinez of the girls cross country team was selected for her leadership and dedication. "This young lady always gives 100 percent," said coach Kimber Cadenhead. "Many times over, she is supporting her fellow team members and making sure they have what they need, they understand the task at hand and they feel part of the team."
Lofton Edwards is one of the top players for the boys water polo team, which continues to improve in just its second season of existence.
Junior Alex Douesnard of the boys cross country team has been one of the most consistent performers for the varsity, compiling four of the top five times, including his most recent PR of 16.36 at the Inland Empire Challenge.
These athletes will be eligible for the Athlete of the Month award for October. Anyone wishing to order a print copy of this article may do so by emailing menifee247info@gmail.com.
