Each week, Menifee 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Paloma Valley High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are the honorees from Paloma Valley High School for the week of Oct. 24:
Offensive lineman Chris Portman had 7 pancake tackles and "blocked exceptionally well" in a victory over Elsinore Oct. 21, said his coach, Bert Esposito.
Linebacker Steven Bradshaw had 9 tackles and a deflection that led to an interception in the football game against Elsinore.
Sophomore middle blocker Melanie Maclin has 50 kills and 30 blocks on the season for the girls volleyball team.
Mikayla Kambeitz is one of the top runners for the girls cross country team. "She leads our girls with confidence and is a great example of dedication," said coach Kimberly Cadenhead. "She helps bond our team."
Tennis player Hannah McCoy "came up big for us against in last Heritage match," said coach David McCoy. "As it turns out, every point counted, even in a loss. Third place came down to that close. We got third place in league. Hannah and the gritty efforts of her fellow teammates sealed the deal. She is a hard worker and her tennis technique is going to allow her to improve very quickly."
These athletes will be eligible for the Athlete of the Month award for October. Anyone wishing to order a print copy of this article may do so by emailing menifee247info@gmail.com
