Each week, Menifee 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Paloma Valley High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select athletes based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's Paloma Valley High School Athletes of the Week:
Corey Maddox ran for 326 yards and 4 touchdowns in the football team's 59-7 win over Temecula Valley on Sept. 23. The Wildcats are 5-0 this season.
Linebacker Steven Bradshaw had 11 tackles, 2 sacks and a pass deflection to lead the defensive effort for the football team.
Sophomore volleyball player Channa Hart helped her team beat Temescal Canyon in five sets. She served the last point of the match in addition to coming up with 8 kills and 5 blocks.
Megan Dallin is part of the tennis team's No. 2 doubles team. "Megan had excellent net play this week, as she has with every week," said her coach, Dave McCoy. "On the baseline, she's one of our quickest and best thletes, staying in many points with her athleticism. We get quiet leadership from this sophomore."
Mauricio Castillo had what coach Jim Gray called a "breakout run" at the Sunny Hills Wayne Walker Invitation for the boys cross country team. His time of 16:45 was a personal record over the three-mile course. With his leadership, the team of Castillo, Tristan Sylva, Conner Dymtriw, Tye Handal and Matt Nusser finished third overall.
