James Phillips ran 70 yards for a touchdown on his team's first play and Heritage High School went on to defeat Elsinore 48-6 Friday night.
Javier Luna rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns for the Patriots, who remained undefeated on the season at 7-0 heading into next week's game at Perris. Sherod White rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown and Phillips finished with 76 yards.
It didn't take long for Heritage to take control of the game. After Phillips' opening touchdown, the Patriots quickly made it 13-0 when Ikaika Tautala scored from one yard out. The score was set up by a 35-yard pass from quarterback Devan Freedland to Tyree Morrow.
Later in the first quarter, a fumble recovery set up another scoring drive, with Jessie Estrada running 9 yards for the touchdown. It was 20-0 after the first period.
Luna picked up the bulk of his yardage on an 84-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. After a 1-yard TD run by White, Heritage had a 34-0 lead. It was 34-3 at halftime.
White got things going with a 72-yard kickoff return in the third quarter, leading to a 4-yard TD run by Luna. Sergio Rendon scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
