A hearing on the City of Menifee's request to detach itself from Valley-Wide Recreation and Park District, originally scheduled for Nov. 10, has been postponed until Jan. 26 in Riverside.
Menifee City Manager Rob Johnson said officials of the Riverside Local Agency Formation Commission have asked for an independent financial company to review the financial data provided by both the City and Valley-Wide. Johnson said that as the applicant for the detachment, the City must pay for this independent study.
LAFCO is the governing body that will decide whether the City of Menifee will be allowed to expand its Community Services Department to cover the entire city. Currently, Valley-Wide owns and operates parks and recreation activities on the east side of Interstate 215, including Wheatfield Park.
Valley-Wide has served residents on the east side of the freeway for 27 years. Since Menifee's incorporation in 2008, the City and Valley-Wide have had disagreements over multiple issues, including the maintenance of parkways along Newport Road in the Menifee Lakes community.
