Motorcyclist dies in early-morning crash on Newport Road

The victim in a fatal traffic accident early Friday morning has been identified by the County Coroner as a 41-year-old Winchester man.

Casey Ivey died of injuries suffered in a single-vehicle accident on Newport Road just west of Haun Road in Menifee, authorities said.

Sheriff's deputies responded at 12:56 a.m. to the scene of the accident and determined that the motorcycle was heading eastbound on Newport Road when it struck the raised center median and crashed there, said Deputy Mike Vasquez. No other vehicles were involved. Ivey was treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital, where he died a short time later.

Vasquez said preliminary investigation indicates that it appears alcohol was a factor in the accident. Eastbound Newport Road was closed from Town Center Drive to Haun Road for a short time this morning.
