The Riverside County Sheriff's Department issued a reminder to residents that fireworks are illegal in most areas of Riverside County, including Menifee, and can cause serious injuries.

Reidents may not sell, purchase, transport, store or use fireworks in Menifee. Fireworks purchased in cities where they are legal may not be transported, used or possessed outside those cities, according to a news release.

This refers to any type of fireworks, including sparklers. In addition to the potential for serious injury, fireworks often cause fires. Individuals who cause a wildfire by using illegal fireworks will be held responsible for all suppression costs and could be criminally prosecuted.
