Curbside Veterans Outreach, a nonprofit group of faith-based individuals, is in need of donations for a program that feeds homeless veterans.
The Curbside Veterans Outreach coordinates projects from Temecula to Victorville. Menifee resident Darren Palermo is one of those involved with the local project, in which church members feed veterans the first Saturday of every month at March Air Force Base.
"We consider ourselves an outreach community center on wheels," Palermo said. "We all come from different churches, we all have different backgrounds, but we all serve the same God."
The program helps veterans get transitional housing as well as serving homemade meals once a month.
"We also grab plates ourselves to sit down with them and fellowship," Palermo said. "We share stories. Within the last year, we have became their friends. We bring live worship music in and spoil them for the day."
Palermo said the group is self-funded and receives very little in donations. Soon they will no longer have access to a kitchen to prepare the meals, so an effort is underway to raise funds for the opening of a kitchen to prepare meals and transport to them or for the purchase of a mobile kitchen.
Palermo said he is also interested in helping to feed low-income seniors in the area. For information on how you can support this group, visit their Facebook page here.
