Story updated June 4 at 1:30 p.m.:

The Riverside County Sheriff's Central Homicide Unit is investigating Friday's shooting death in an unincorporated area south of Menifee "based on the circumstances surrounding the discharge of the firearm," Menifee Police Captain Brandon Ford told Menifee 24/7 today. The victim was pronounced dead at a local hospital on Friday, he said.

"It is a homicide investigation," Ford said. "The question of criminal homicide remains under investigation. Presently, nobody is in custody."

The identity of the deceased has not been released. The shooting occurred at about 1:30 p.m. Friday in the 29200 block of Garnet Street, south of Scott Road and east of Menifee Road. According to Ford, deputies responded to a report of shots fired. A witness to the scene moments after police arrived told Menifee 24/7 a victim was taken away on a stretcher with medical personnel performing CPR. The scene was quickly roped off by deputies and the street was closed, even to residents.

Several crime scene investigators were on scene for hours afterward and a male was taken away in the back of a patrol car.

A man walking away from the scene after talking to an investigator told Menifee 24/7 the victim was his sister and that she died at a local hospital. He did not give his name or the name of the victim and said he had no other details about the incident.

We will update this story as soon as more information is released.

Thank you so much for this. A lot of kids don't obey any traffic laws and think they own the right of way when ridding. They definitely need to be educated on rules of the road.
