Each week, Menifee 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Heritage High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select athletes based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's Athletes of the Week:
Katelyn Thomas finished third overall in both the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke in the CIF swimming finals. The sophomore now holds the school and Sunbelt League record for the 50 free with a time of 24.15.
Alexander Tello of the boys track team competed in the CIF prelims in the 400, 200 and 4x100 relay. His best time of 50.81 in the 400 is the second best in school history.
Liya Houston, a sophomore for the girls track team, ran the third leg of the 4x100 relay in the CIF prelims.
Robert Papson played a key role for the boys tennis team, which won the CIF title last week. Normally a doubles player, he filled in for an injured singles player and won two of three sets in a second-round playoff victory.
These are the last Athletes of the Week from Heritage High this school year. Congratulations to all those who were honored this year.
